LISTENING FOR ANGELS
Finding Meaning Amidst the Noise
The season leading to Christmas, the old church season of Advent- a time of hope, peace, love and joy- has become a time of frantic shopping demands, forced “Holiday Spirit,” and very little time for meditation or reflection. You are cordially invited to join us as we try to reclaim a bit of what the season is really about and find ways to listen for the eternal message of hope and love God still sends…even if it’s sometimes a little hard to hear!

GRATEFUL. THANKFUL. BLESSED
Celebrating a Season of Thankfulness
Most of us were taught the magic words “please” and “thank you.” Yet they are more than incantations that open doors for us. As children of God we are called to cultivate an attitude of humility and appreciation. As we head towards Thanksgiving and then the advent season, let’s take some time to reclaim that viewpoint that opens our eyes and hearts to God’s always-open arms.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
Finding God in the Wilderness
Wildernesses are scary places that show us all too clearly our weaknesses and fears. Throughout the Bible, however, God uses these times in the wilderness as places of teaching and opportunities for trust and expositions of holy power. Though we may not be wandering in the Judean desert, we have our own wildernesses of fear, doubt and worry. In September and October we’ll experience some of that Biblical wilderness and listen closely for God’s word of love and strength to us in our own empty and scary places.

CONVERSATIONS AT A WELL
The Necessity of Becoming SALT
We live in a world in upheaval and conflict. We are divided along racial, cultural and political lines. Yet the church is called to be God’s agency for bridging those divides and nurturing community. So how do we do that? In John’s gospel we hear the story of Christ’s encounter with a woman from a different culture and background. His encounter with her is a model for our own lives in this volatile time. Using the acronym SALT (from Matthew 5:13) we’ll explore how to orient and prepare ourselves to be Christ’s emissaries to a broken and angry world.

ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?
Lessons from the Life of Jacob
Meet Jacob... a spoiled son who let no one - including his own brother - stand in the way of getting what he wanted... A shrewd and sometimes unethical business man... the patriarch of a very large dysfunctional family... And, the only man who ever wrestled with God and lived to tell about it. Despite his flaws and challenges, in the end Jacob was blessed by God and managed to redeem himself and his broken relationships. If you've ever wrestled with God, struggled with relationships or done things you're not proud of, you'll see yourself in Jacob's story.

OUTSTANDING! 2020
Living As People With Nothing to Lose
As Christians we are called to be “resurrection people,” those who live above and apart from a dead world. More than that, we are called to bring life to that world through the power of Christ and the Spirit dwelling within us. That’s a tall order and the world is extremely resistant to say the least! The letter of 1 Peter is written to a congregation struggling with precisely those same issues. For this season of Easter, we’ll explore this letter and its message for Easter People.

RENOVATIONS
Reshaping our lives from mere believers to a body of disciples
For too many Christianity is something you do or an idea with which you mentally agree. Yet being a disciple of Jesus Christ is a life long journey, a process by which we grow to know God, each other and ourselves better and through which we are steadily changed into the likeness of Christ. It grows in stages of belonging to the body, believing in God, growing in our commitment and understanding and finally living full lives of faith. As we start the new year, we’ll explore this process of belonging, believing, growing and living as we invite God to continue the renovations He calls for in our hearts, bodies and spirits.
